The Etobicoke-Mississauga Branch of the Ontario Registered Music Teachers’ Association (ORMTA) will be hosting two virtual events during the month of March.
Event One: Assessments (March 6-7)
The Assessments (March 6-7) are open to students of all levels. Pre-recorded videos will be live-streamed on Zoom and evaluated on the spot by a live adjudicator. Students will receive comments live and a mark in written form. This year’s adjudicator is Dr. Joseph Ferretti, Senior Examiner for the Royal Conservatory of Music and piano faculty member at Wilfred Laurier University.
The Assessments are an opportunity to receive feedback from a professional other than one’s primary instructor and can serve as a helpful stepping stone to those who are preparing for RCM Exams. Additionally, students who score an 84 or above will be invited to participate in the virtual Branch Competitions in May — a fun-spirited event in which top finishers are awarded monetary prizes.

Event Two: Piano Solos Master Class (March 28)
The Piano Solos Master Class (March 28) is open to students studying in Levels 8 and higher. Live performances will be streamed on Zoom and commented on by a master teacher.* This year’s instructor is Dr. Brett Kingsbury, Assistant Professor of Piano in the Don Wright Faculty of Music at Western University. Dr. Kingsbury provides helpful insights to late-intermediate and advanced learners in a non-intimidating manner. This event is useful to anyone who is preparing an advanced-level RCM exam or is looking to take their current repertoire to the next level.
